Volunteer Coordinator

Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center (GMTRC) is seeking a highly motivated Volunteer Coordinator with equine experience to join our exciting team. We are a long-standing Lancaster County nonprofit organization who has been serving children and adults with disabilities through equine assisted activities since 1981.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing the volunteer segment of the program in a manner that ensures the organization achieves its mission and vision, and maintains its core values. This position requires working in the barn office setting and the ability to work remotely.

STATUS: Part-time (30 hours/week). Hours may require occasional Saturday coverage during lessons and special events. Flexibility of schedule is important (to attend weekly lessons, work remotely, and ensure coverage).


  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Must provide an official, clean Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record.
  • Must provide an official, clean Pennsylvania Child Abuse Record.
  • Computer and Microsoft Office, PowerPoint & Excel experience required.
  • Horse Experience of two of more years required.
  • Experience supervising and scheduling staff of volunteers preferred.
  • The ability to work independently is required.


  • Schedule and confirm volunteers for all sessions/classes; inform volunteers of schedule. Create and maintain a substitution list.
  • Oversee or assign volunteers to prepare horses for classes; so that volunteers have the proper tack and equipment, and that horses are groomed properly.
  • Attend 50% of weekly classes especially in the beginning of all sessions (assume some flexibility).
  • Recruit, train, and retain volunteers.
  • Plan and facilitate volunteer orientations/training opportunities.
  • Identify new methods and opportunities for recruiting volunteers and attend volunteer recruiting events when possible.
  • Identify volunteer competencies based on program standards. Create a volunteer development program and progress volunteers based on competencies.
  • Maintain a volunteer database. Organize and maintain volunteer paperwork. Collect and secure volunteer clearances. Track and record volunteer hours for grant writing and awards purposes.
  • Compose and send out Volunteer Newsletter.
  • Assist in annual events and other special functions.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to see, hear, and speak effectively. Must be able to kneel, stoop, reach, push, climb, and traverse uneven terrain. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.

Part-Time Therapeutic Riding Instructor

Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center (GMTRC) in Lancaster, PA is looking for a certified TR Instructor (PATH Int’l or CECTH) to add to our team. This individual is expected to provide safe and goal-directed horseback riding lessons to children and adults with special needs, following GMTRC procedures. This is an hourly position that could include lessons on weekday mornings, evenings and Saturday mornings. GMTRC serves children and adults with a variety of documented diagnoses as well as runs several unmounted groups throughout the year. Applicants must be certified by either PATH Int’l or CECTH and hold experience instructing individual and group TR lessons to a variety of ages and diagnoses. Submission of a current clean PA State criminal background check and Child Abuse Clearance is required.
