The Causes That Matter to Us

Helping Those with Special Needs
GMTRC currently serves participants with the following diagnoses: 54.4% have a physical disability, 86% have an intellectual disability, 37% have a neurological disorder, 14% have Down Syndrome, 32% have a mental health diagnosis, 25% have Autism Spectrum Disorders—and most of our participants have more than one disorder.

Programming for Seniors
Silver Saddles is a program designed to allow participants to experience the remarkable bond that can develop between humans and horses. The program caters specifically to people ages 55 and older who are hoping to enhance their physical, intellectual, and personal growth and make positive connections and forge friendships with others.

Kindness to Animals
GMTRC’s horses are provided with the highest level of care. They eat specialized diets and supplements, receive regular veterinary care, have excellent pasture and facility living atmospheres, and are regularly exercised. Our herd is tended to by highly qualified staff and volunteers who care about the horses’ wellbeing and happiness.

Healthy Lifestyle Promotion
Horseback riding is a feel-good activity for people of all abilities. Studies prove that riding taught by a qualified instructor improves circulation, flexibility, balance, core strength, and coordination. Because it involves engagement with the animal, riders feel emotional, social, and psychological benefits as well. This is hard work that feels like fun!
