Part-Time Therapeutic Riding Instructor
Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center (GMTRC) in Lancaster, PA is looking for a certified TR Instructor (PATH Int’l or CECTH) to add to our team. This individual is expected to provide safe and goal-directed horseback riding lessons for children and adults with special needs, following GMTRC procedures. This is an hourly position that could include lessons on weekday mornings, evenings and Saturday mornings. GMTRC serves children and adults with a variety of documented diagnoses and runs several unmounted groups throughout the year. Applicants must be certified by either PATH Int’l or CECTH and hold experience instructing individual and group TR lessons for a variety of ages and diagnoses. Submission of a current clean PA State criminal background check and Child Abuse Clearance is required.

Full-Time Therapeutic Riding Instructor
This is an in-person, full-time position. The person we hire will be responsible for delivering safe, cooperative, and continuing therapeutic horsemanship lessons and group programs for people with physical, behavioral, emotional, and intellectual challenges.
The Therapeutic Riding Instructor will also be required to help with volunteer training, equine training and care, and our special annual events.
Job Responsibilities
- Available 40 hours per week, with evening and weekend work as needed.
- Aid participants in therapeutic horsemanship sessions that foster autonomy and progression, as suitable in mounted and unmounted activities.
- Lift and transfer items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Execute adaptive mounts and dismounts for participants weighing up to 185 pounds.
- Perform various side-walking holds for extended periods of time—walking and trotting.
- Create and manage weekly lesson plans and evaluations with quarterly goals for each participant.
- Develop and deliver curriculum for at-risk population group programs.
- Assist with equine training and conditioning.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current PATH Certified Riding Instructor certification. Other accredited therapeutic certifications may be accepted [e.g. CECTH (Council of Education & Certification in Therapeutic Horsemanship) and CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association]. Certification must be maintained with annual continuing education requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively while always striving to improve.
- Excellent listening skills and a desire to understand our participants’ needs.
Experience
- Horsemanship (required): 3 years
- Administering of Equine-Assisted Therapy (preferred): 1 year
