Full-Time / Part-Time Instructor
Join our team in empowering student growth, confidence, and joy through the transformative connection with horses. Our instructors provide equine-assisted instruction to individuals with special needs and at-risk communities in a way that reflects our values – leading with integrity, compassion, enthusiasm, and a courageous commitment to growth.
Essential Duties:
- Plan and carry out programming (i.e., lessons, groups, special events, etc.) safely, following GMTRC and industry guidelines.
- Develop goals and objectives for each student or program, completing necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
- Assist in and/or supervise the care of horses pre/post programming.
- Assist in the education and training of volunteers.
- Help with the selection and rehoming of equine, as well as contribute to the training and conditioning goals of the herd.
- Assist with special events including programs, fundraisers, community outreach, etc.
- Provide daily care and maintenance of the equine and facility.
- Additional duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Equine experience is required.
- Must provide proof of current instructor certification from a professional organization (such as: PATH, CECTH, etc.).
- Current CPR/First Aid certification is required.
- Current mandated reporter training is required.
- Ability to build positive relationships with others, fostering a safe and positive environment to work, learn, and grow.
- Display good discernment, and problem-solving skills. Be able to work under pressure, diffuse conflicts, and maintain an approachable and friendly demeanor.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer experience and competency including Microsoft office software.
- Demonstrate commitment and competency in all responsibilities.

Internships at GMTRC
Our internships offer hands-on experience in a mission-driven environment where horses empower lives. Each position is customized to your skills, interests, and goals, whether your focus is program support or equine care. Internships are available on a limited basis to high school juniors and seniors, and college students of any level. Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest and/or resume to join our team and grow alongside our herd and community.
Program Internship
Ideal for individuals passionate about serving people, Program Interns support equine-assisted services, assist with administrative and outreach efforts, and help strengthen the systems that allow us to provide transformative experiences for our students. Interns gain exposure to adaptive programming, nonprofit management, and the therapeutic community—all within a values-driven environment that emphasizes growth, compassion, and teamwork.
Equine Internship
Designed for those eager to deepen their horsemanship skills, Equine Interns assist with daily horse care, training, conditioning, barn operations, and facility management. Participants learn how exceptional horse care supports student outcomes, while developing technical skills and responsible facility stewardship in a safe, supportive environment.
Custom Internship Opportunities
We recognize that each intern brings unique skills and passions. Occasionally, we offer custom internships outside the standard Program or Equine tracks, tailored to an individual’s strengths and goals while supporting our mission. Applicants are encouraged to highlight any special interests or expertise in their letter of interest.
Instructors in Training
Our Instructor in Training (IIT) program provides mentorship and practical teaching experience for individuals pursuing their instructor certification. Participants gain hands-on experience leading equine-assisted activities under the guidance of experienced instructors, building both instructional skills and horsemanship.
This opportunity is highly selective and offered on a case-by-case basis, depending on qualifications and team capacity. Accepted participants gain valuable teaching experience while supporting our mission to empower student growth, confidence, and joy through the transformative connection with horses.
